'The Mermaid' (36x48) Mixed Media on Canvas
Her back is turned to the audience because yes she is still shy.
She has long black hair because this reminds her of her youth;
where freedom was bliss and there were no real worries in life.
There are bold, vibrant and colourful squares that surround her.
These odd shaped squares represent her memories; fortunately
9/10 of them were good ones. This ratio is true, she stayed up
one night and did the math as she tried to convince herself that
even though life does suck sometimes - things do work out,and
sure enough they do. The various shades of blue signify not only
the water in which she needs in order to survive, but it also
represents her mood at times. She is a creative creature and
henceforth feels everything ten fold. She is by herself in this
moment captured in time. She is fiercely independent but enjoys
the company of her lovely ones. She is sitting beside a rock full
of moss, tiny flowers, small organisms from land and sea, and
this signifies how close she is to life and all its wonders.
She is crouching perhaps looking at something unique and just
found. No one can tell what she is thinking and what her mood is.
She is 'The Mermaid' and so the mystery will continue. Every
morning, she continues to dive into the cold waters and even
though she knows it is cold; she dives in head first anyways.
Is she happy ? Is she finally at peace ? Is she following her dreams ?
Yes, I am.
